Tournament rules for the Dutch Pinball Open at the 1st Nov 1997
Participating.
Open to all foreign players who have not entered for the European
Championship on Sunday the 2nd of November 1997. Foreign players
participating in the Dutch Pinball Open cannot qualify for the
E.P.C.!
Participants.
Players entering the competition will receive a badge and a
personnal players card. This players card is for your own use
and need not to be returned.
The competition floor.
On two sides there will be a line-up of machines. In the middle
is a corridor marked by two rows of tables. This corridor is open
to all. During the competition games only those players involved
in a game are allowed between the tables and the machines.
Smoking is prohibited on the competition floor during the actual
competition. Eating and drinking is allowed at the tables. During
the training sessions smoking is allowed at the tables. During
the whole weekend it is not allowed to have any food, drinks or
tabacco on or above the machines.
Settings.
- Tournament games will be set as follows (or as near as possible
if a feature is not available).
- Three balls per game.
- Auto percentaging will be disabled. This will prevent that games
will become easier or more difficult during the competition.
- Tournament mode will be enabled.
- Replays will not have any value.
- One extra ball per player per game.
- Tilt will be set slightly conservative. Tilt warnings will be set
to four.
- High scores will be disabled.
Training.
To get acquainted to the machines training is possible on Friday the
31st of October from 17.30 till 01.00 hrs. Saturday the 1st of
November from 09.30 till 11.00 hrs and from the end of the qualifying
rounds till 19.30 hrs.
Qualification rounds.
During the whole of the tournament ladies and gentlemen will play
seperated. This round start at 12.00 hrs on Saturday. Gentlemen will
either play in group A or B. Ladies will play in group D.
Tournament progress for the gentlemen:
Qualifying round.
Players from group A start playing. When the first game is finished
the players from group B will play and so on. At least four games
will be played. If these four games for both groups are finished
before 16.00 hrs a fifth game will be played. For the scores of each
game from high to low players will get 9, 5, 2 and zero points.
The double knock-out.
Will be started with 64 players. First all the players who qualified
in preliminary rounds held in the country and who do re-enter will be
counted (max. 32). All remaining positions will be filled in by those
starting with the highest total of points in the qualifying
round. All players will get a new number. The tournament staff
will call which players will play against each other and on which
game. One game will be played at the time. Winners will continue
in the next winners round. Losers will go to a losers round and get
a second chance. If you lose in a losers round your tournament ends.
When 16 players are left over the round will be stopped and continued
on Sunday. The final will be held between the winner of all winner
rounds and the winner of the last losers round. The winner of the
winners rounds won't get a second chance. The final will be a
'best of...' round where the number of games to be played will be
predetermined (depending on time available).
Tournament progress for ladies:
Qualifying round.
Will depend on how many ladies enter the competition. From 20 players
onwards it will be identical to the qualifying round for gentlemen.
When there are less than 20 players the progress depends on the total
number of entered players. Possibilities are a number of 'best of 3'
rounds, playing in groups of three or even five players. At least
four games will be played by all players.
Semi-finals.
Regardless the number of players who entered the best six from the
qualifying round will enter the semi-finals. This will be one
'best of five' round.
Finals.
The three winners from the semi-finals will play in one group on
three machines where the players position will change. No points
here, all scores must be recorded. For each played game the highest
score will be 'indexed' to 1,000 points and the lower scored will be
adjusted to this. At the end of the finale there will be a first,
second and third.
Standing orders (also known as tournament rules).
- Badges must be worn clearly visible during all times.
- Do not enter the competition floor if it is not your turn to play
(is the space between the tables and the machines, see the
paragraph 'Competition floor').
- When you are called for the next games please proceed to your
machine directly. If you do not show up in two minutes you will
be called once more.
- If you fail to show up within the two minutes following the second
call during the qualifying round you will get zero points for that
game, during the double knock-out your game will be considered
lost.
- When all players have reported at their machine a deputy will check
and start the game.
- Players waiting for their turn should stay behind the one playing.
Talking to or distracting this player is not allowed. Touching the
machine when it is not your turn is not allowed.
- When the ball exits the game any physical move to return the ball
into play is forbidden. (Thus, bang-backs, death-saves or
resurrections are forbidden).
- On their turn players should put the ball into play within one
minute.
- Do not hold the ball stopped for longer than fifteen seconds. It is
however allowed to cradle a ball during multiball when at least one
ball is 'active' in play.
- When a technical error occurs act as in the next paragraph.
- Players within a group are requested to check each other on the
above rules. If you have a complaint call for a deputy. He or she
will give an official warning if needed. If the same player again
violates a rule he or she will lose his or her current game.
- When a player tilts the machine and this results in a tilt for the
next player without having touched the machine
...the cause will lose his or her game.
- When the last player during the last ball reaches a score higher
than any of the other players the game will be discontinued. This,
of course, will not be done during 'indexed' games (ladies finals).
- After each game a deputy will record the gained points on a card of
his own. Players are invited to check this card. As soon as the
card is taken to the staff it is not revocable.
- Players are supposed to complete the qualifying round. If you have
to leave early please report to the staff.
- When during the qualifying round a game last exceptionally long the
other group will still start. In this case the group who should
report to the machine still in use will be directed to a spare
game.
Technical discrepancies.
If a technical discrepancy (a defect) of any kind occurs during game
play, which will change the progress of the game in a negative or
positive way to one of the play-ers another player should report this
immediately to one of the deputies. In the meanwhile the active
player should try to stop the game play. In this case holding the
ball on the flipper is allowed. Putting another ball into play is not
allowed. Since the possible discrepancies can vary a lot the deputy
will consult with the players for a possible solution.
The staff wishes all players a good tournament in good sportsmanship.
